It’s an age-old question among home daycare providers.
Who provides the diapers?
In our case, we do. And for many reasons, too.
Why We Provide Diapers at Our Home Daycare
#1. We buy them in bulk. And get them delivered. By the truck load. Just kidding, just several boxes. At a time. On subscription. For a discount.
Who is stuck searching for an extra diaper for a huge blow-out? Not us.
#2. After we buy them, we charge parents for them. We’ve estimated about how many diapers and wipes each kid uses, and we add a monthly fee into our tuition to cover it. Thus, our tuition goes down significantly when a kid turns three and is potty-trained.
We charge about $50/month/kid on top of our tuition (though we just add it in).
#3. We never have to ask for them. Hate having to continue to remind parents to bring them in? Provide them yourself. And charge for it.
#4. We choose the brand and size. We pick our favorite wipes and buy ONLY those wipes. No more crappy (get it?) wipes. Not to mention having to tell parents to *finally* buy the next size diaper for their kid. Forget trying to run out the pack. We have several other children using that old size – just size them up. And no more sad, cheap diapers. We have our favorites and we STICK to them.
#5. It’s easier. See above reasons – we don’t want to bother with begging for more diapers in the right size, or wipes that actually WIPE, or reminding several days in advance – or after it’s too late.
We are in charge, we know what works. So we buy (and pass along the cost).
